CAITS and CFIT

Children and Adolescent Intensive Treatment Services (CAITS) and Children and Families Intensive Treatment (CFIT) serve children from birth to 18 years of age who are experiencing emotional and/or behavioral symptoms. Treatment includes a broad array of services designed to:

• Reduce acute clinical symptoms 
• Teach effective symptom management and coping skills 
• Help teach family members or caretakers how to find solutions to the behavioral or emotional symptoms of their children

Helping Children and Families
CAITS and CFIT can help children avoid hospitalization, placement out of their homes or schools, or serious problems in their social and family relationships. At The Providence Center, teams of child and family specialists, including therapists, family support specialists, and family service coordinators, develop individualized treatment plans designed to provide families with assistance that will lead to positive, healthy changes for all involved family members.

Services are provided in the family's home, in the child's school, at The Providence Center and in other settings within the family's community. CAITS and CFIT are  designed to be implemented in homes and communities so that children can put their new skills to work where they live, learn and play.

A specialized Latino Team, comprised of bi-cultural, bi-lingual therapists and case mangers deliver CAITS and CFIT services to Latino children and families.  Because the team understands the families' culture and norms as they relate to mental health and substance abuse, they are able to provide uniquely designed, culturally appropriate services.

Services
CAITS and CFIT include a variety of services, depending on the child and family's needs. Treatment services may include:

• Crisis/emergency assessment and intervention 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
• Family support and care coordination
• Family assessment
• Behavior management and parenting strategies
• Individual, group and family therapy
• Service coordination with other providers in the community
• Assistance navigating service and treatment options

Eligibility
Each child referred to The Providence Center will receive a clinical assessment to determine if he or she is eligible for CAITS or CFIT services. Children and families that meet eligibility criteria will be admitted to the program. Eligibility criteria include behavioral and emotional symptoms that significantly interfere with the child’s functioning at home, in school and/or in the community.

Coverage
CAITS is paid for by all Rhode Island RIte Care plans, and those who receive Medical Assistance through Katie Beckett or Social Security.  CFIT services are covered by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Rhode Island and United Healthcare.
