Addiction Treatment and Recovery Services


Located at the Rhode Island Adult Correctional Institute, The Providence Center's Addiction Treatment and Recovery Services program helps inmates learn new skills and behaviors that support their recovery from substance abuse and helps them to avoid future criminal behavior. Participation in the program lasts up to one year.

Treatment focuses on the unique needs and strengths of each person and includes groups on:

  • Substance abuse education
  • Relapse prevention
  • Social and life skills
  • Anger management

Peer-based recovery support

  • Valuable peer support from recovery coaches—people inmates can relate to as they work to rebuild their lives
  • Three-month recovery group focused on prevention, planning and recovery coaching
  • An opportunity to strengthen personal recovery goals and become an integral part of the recovery community

Specialized services

  • Gender responsive programs for women focusing on parenting, relationships and trauma 
  • Treatment for individuals with co-occurring mental health and substance abuse issues

Discharge planning provides connections to services after release to ensure long-lasting success

  • Access to all peer support services at Anchor Recovery Community Center including AA and NA groups, women's groups, Latino groups, faith-based groups, employment services, recovery coach support and wellness activities
  • Access to various community resources such as food stamps, state identification cards and clothing vouchers
  • Continued co-occurring treatment at The Providence Center
  • Employment and education services
  • Primary health care
