Community Diversion Program

The Community Diversion Program, located at the sub-station at Kennedy Plaza, in Providence, Rhode Island, offers police and other first responders an alternative to incarceration for people with mental health and substance abuse problems who commit misdemeanors. Following a brief, on-site assessment recommendations are made for follow-up treatment, which includes access to a wide variety of programs and services at The Providence Center such as:

•  Individual and group counseling
•  Housing
•  Employment and education
•  Medication management
•  Wellness programs
•  Hospitalization (in severe cases)
