Child Counseling Programs and Services
Children and adolescents up to 18 years old may receive outpatient counseling services for behavior and emotional problems. The adolescent and child counseling programs
emphasize treatment that reduces symptoms and may include working with
schools, physicians and other community agencies. Family involvement
is considered an important component of treatment, whenever possible.
Parents may take part in parenting programs that teach strategies to
improve the parent/child relationship, and parents and youths participate in treatment planning
In addition to individual child counseling, group treatment is also used.
The outpatient program also provides a range of evaluations, including those for the Department of Children, Youth and Family (DCYF), sexual abuse, psychological testing, and psychiatric evaluations for students in the Providence School Department. Psychiatric services include medication management.
