Therapeutic Programs for Preschool
Children with Behavior Problems and their Families
For children who have significant preschool behavior
problems, or whose parents are seriously mentally ill or homeless, being
successful in a day care or Head Start program can be difficult−so
can entering kindergarten "ready to learn." To help manage
and control toddler behavior problems, The Early Childhood Institute
offers a wide range of therapeutic services designed to meet the unique
emotional, social and developmental needs of these children.
These services include therapeutic classrooms staffed by Early Childhood
specialists who assist toddlers with behavior problems in developing
critical emotional and behavior skills. Parents participate in the
classroom experience with their children and learn appropriate techniques
for managing their child's aggressive behavior and controlling their
impulses. Families may also be linked with services at The Providence
Center and in their homes. These services include:
-
developmental and psychiatric evaluations
-
structured and play group activities
-
individualized cognitive, language, motor skills and
social behavior curriculum
-
parent training
-
individual, group and family therapy
Children are referred to our therapeutic program by childcare
centers, physicians, insurers, preschools, local school districts and
state agencies.
