Providence Center Celebrates
20th Anniversary of The Providence Center School
at 38th Annual Meeting

PROVIDENCE, RI (December 7, 2007) – The Providence Center commemorated the 20th anniversary of The Providence Center School at its 38th Annual Meeting on Wednesday, December 5, at the Providence Marriot. The Center honored the three founders of The Providence Center School—Fredericka Bettinger of Charlestown, Haven Miles of Bristol and Pamela Rubovits of Foster.

Bettinger, Miles and Rubovits founded The Providence Center School in 1987 to serve children with emotional and behavioral disabilities. Citations from Governor Donald L. Carcieri, Mayor David N. Cicilline and Congressman James R. Langevin were presented to the honorees and the school. In his citation, Mayor Cicilline described The Providence Center School as “one of the finest schools in the nation for students with special needs.”

Dale K. Klatzker, president/CEO of The Providence Center, praised and thanked Bettinger, Miles and Rubovits: “It was the vision of this team of three and their desire to help children feel successful academically, socially and emotionally that drove them to found The Providence Center School and for that we are very grateful.”

The Providence Center annually serves over 11,000 adults, children and adolescents who struggle with mental illness, addiction and emotional problems. Since its establishment in 1969, The Providence Center has been part of Rhode Island’s exemplary behavioral health care system, offering a comprehensive array of treatment and rehabilitation services.
