THE PROVIDENCE CENTER ANNOUNCES NEWLY ELECTED
OFFICERS OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES
PROVIDENCE, RI (October 3, 2007) – The Providence Center, a community-based, outpatient behavioral health organization, today announced the following newly elected officers of the Board of Trustees.
Garry Bliss brings over 17 years of comprehensive policy and communications experience to The Providence Center’s Board of Trustees. In his current position as Director of Policy and Legislative Affairs for Providence Mayor David N. Cicilline, Bliss is responsible for supervising intergovernmental relations, developing legislative priorities and coordinating interdepartmental policy development. He also serves as the primary liaison with the City’s federal representatives and is responsible for working with local community groups, public agencies and national organizations.
Bliss has previously held a series of policy related positions in the political arena including most recently serving as policy director for former Rhode Island General Treasurer Paul J. Tavares and as senior legislative assistant to Congressman Patrick J. Kennedy.
In additional to his volunteer role on The Providence Center’s Board of Trustees, Bliss has also served as the chair of the board of the Genesis Center and as chair of the board at Sophia Academy.
Bliss is a graduate of Connecticut College in New London, CT. He resides in Providence, RI.
Commander Paul J. Kennedy brings over 29 years of public service to The Providence Center’s Board of Trustees. Since May 1978, Commander Kennedy has served on the Providence Police Department working in the Patrol Bureau and Detective Bureau continuing to move up the ranks to his current position as Deputy to the Chief of Police. In this role, he is responsible for all operations within the Uniform and Investigative divisions. He is also responsible for all disciplinary matters and assists the Chief with administrative duties.
Commander Kennedy has served on numerous boards and commissions including the Governor’s Task Force on Juvenile Justice Reform, the Juvenile Justice Advisory Committee and the Hasbro Children’s Hospital’s Child Protection Team.
Commander Kennedy is a graduate of Roger Williams University. He resides in Cranston, RI.
