STUDENTS FROM PROVIDENCE CENTER SCHOOL EXPLORE AUTO CAREERS AT FIRST ANNUAL CAREER DAY AT INSKIP AUTOMALL
PROVIDENCE, RI (September 14, 2006) – The Providence Center recently teamed up with the INSKIP Automotive Group to host their First Annual Career Day at the INSKIP Automall in Warwick. Several students from The Providence Center School, an alternative learning setting that serves emotionally and behaviorally challenged students, learned first-hand about the wide variety of automotive industry careers available to young people.
Michael Brown, president of INSKIP, spoke to eleventh and twelfth grade students about the growth potential available in all areas of the dealership’s operations. “INSKIP is truly a great place to build your career. Whether you choose a career in the auto world or in any other business, if you really put your mind to it, anything is achievable,” explained Brown. Business Development Center/Training Manager Dennis Rebelo, continued to advise the students, “There are four things that we look for in a good employee: desire, outlook, responsibility and commitment. If you have a positive attitude it’s contagious.” Additional INSKIP management team members, Joanna Martucci, human resource manager and Ed Clark, fixed operations director, also shared their personal experiences about the auto business.
Following the informative sessions, students also received a “behind-the-scenes” tour of the expansive facility which included the Volvo showroom and service center, the paint and detailing department, and the customer service center. During the tour, students had the opportunity to interact directly with dealership employees.
Maria, an eleventh-grader said, “I’m impressed with everything I have seen. I am going to school to have a good career someday. I’m going to tell my family about everything I’ve seen.” Matt, a twelfth-grader, was also excited while touring the showroom and exclaimed, “My favorite car is the Mercedes-Benz!”
Martha McVicker, transitional coordinator at The Providence Center School also noted, “This experience provided a wonderful opportunity for our students to understand the many rewarding career opportunities available to them in this field. We are very grateful for INSKIP’s personal investment in our students’ education.”
As part of their community outreach program, INSKIP Automotive Group will be partnering with The Providence Center on a number of projects. “We are excited about our continuing affiliation and especially eager to be a part of The Providence Center School’s vocational program. We want to provide more than financial support to The Center; we want to be personally involved in affecting positive change,” said Brown.
